Life Cycle Management

Technical projects are complex and cannot succeed without strategic planning. A well-planned project can be controlled, its progress should be visible, and all members will be given the support they need to perform their tasks. Involving end users in the project early and during all stages leads to better defined requirements. A staged approach to deliverables, defines the order in which the technologies will be constructed. It ensures that the solution is developed to both maximize the value to the client at each stage and minimize the risks. All of these critical elements are accounted for in the Technology Life Cycle methodology in order to make Information Technology projects successful and cost effective.

Technology Life Cycle is Information Technologies’ methodology governing the complete Technology Life Cycle, from concept through retirement. It is a standard formula for consistent project delivery.

Primary reasons for a Technology Life Cycle:

• Provides a standard schematic for project delivery
• Serves as a unambiguous guide to project challenges
• Outlines a consistent project delivery approach
• Stimulates process improvement throughout the project
• Documents project successes/areas for improvement
• Maximizes the quality of deliverables

A project's lifecycle consists of the Technology Life Cycle’s five major phases:
Plan, Design, Build, Deploy and Support.

All new projects are formed in the Plan phase. If the project identifies a business need and all of the Plan phase requirements are met, the project continues forward into the Design phase.

During the Design Phase greater detail of the functional requirements are gathered and a prototyping will be done if necessary. After major requirements are defined, the project moves to the Build phase.

In the Build Phase additional resources are committed to the project and the actual development begins. At the end of the Build phase, a fully functional system has passed all technical and functional testing.

In the Deploy Stage the projects is in 'live' or 'production' status. Once the project is in production and it is determened the implementation was successful, the Support phase begins.
